San Miguel crushes Chang Thailand

MANILA, Philippines — Leo Avenido formed a deadly combination with new import Jarrid Famous as San Miguel Beer rolled past Chang Thailand, 92-77, in the Asean Basketball League Saturday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Beermen stormed to a 51-30 advantage at halftime with Avenido finishing with a team-high 26 points and Famous adding 18.

“We had to make some adjustments with [some new additions in the team], so we are still adjusting,” said San Miguel coach Bobby Parks after the Beermen picked up their third straight victory to stay in the top three with an 8-3 card.

Another key Avenido triple helped defuse a rally by the Slammers, who mounted a huge 18-0 run that pushed them within 12 points, 82-70, with over two minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

The Slammers, who recently retooled their lineup by hiring Filipinos Raymond Aguilar, JP Alcaraz and Earn Saguindel, dropped to 4-7.
