MANILA, Philippines — Keith Thurman’s loss to Manny Pacquiao in July of last year was more than just a blemish on his previously-undefeated record.

Thurman admitted he got depressed after losing his WBA (Super) welterweight title to Pacquiao by split-decision.

“I was depressed. I didn’t enjoy taking my first career L (loss). Even though I lost to a champion,” Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs) revealed on FightHype.com. “I put in my effort in that fight.”

The 31-year-old Thurman also said he’s dealing with weight problems on top of a nagging hand injury that has troubled him for the last several years.

“I was 192 (pounds) last summer after the hand injury when I was in LA when I was commentating the Spence-Porter fight,” he said.

With health issues coupled with the pandemic, Thurman hasn’t fought since the Pacquiao bout.

But the Clearwater, Florida native vowed to return better than ever.

“No more Ls, no more split decision, we gotta come back and dominate this welterweight division. Ya’ll must have forgot who I am, they must have forgot who I am. I’m the biggest threat that ever was at 147. I gotta get my mind right,” he said.

“Real champions, they fall to rise again.”
