Yulo wins 2 bronze medals in All-Japan Gymnastics

MANILA, Philippines — Carlos Yulo secured a couple of medals in his preparation for the Tokyo Olympics, winning two bronzes in the All-Japan Gymnastics Championships Sunday at Takasaki Arena.

The 20-year-old Yulo got third place prizes in both the floor exercises and the vault competition.

Yulo scored 14.866 in the vault behind gold and silver medal winners Hidenobu Yonekura (15.133) and Keisuke Asato (15.083).

He then tallied a 15.200 card in the floor exercises with Kazuki Minami taking the gold medal with a score of 15.600 and Ryosuke Doi taking the silver with a 15.300 slate.

The Filipino Olympian settled for eighth place overall in the men’s all-around with a total score of 170.032.

Yulo, the gold medal winner in the floor exercises of the 2019 Stuttgart World Championships, is in Japan training for the Olympics and is one of four Filipinos who have qualified for the Tokyo Summer Games along boxers Irish Magno and Eumir Marcial, and pole vaulter EJ Obiena.
