Central Visayas runaway Prisaa champs

CEBU CITY—Central Visayas,  sustaining its dominance on several fronts, wrap up the overall championship of the Prisaa National Games which concluded here on successful note here on Friday.

A flurry of victories in boxing, women’s indoor and beach volleyball, table tennis,  basketball and  a surprise win in men’s football capped the runaway triumph of the  Region 7 bets  in the 20th edition of the collegiate event which was revived in 1991.

Central Visayas finished with 117 gold medals on top of 44 silvers and 41 bronzes. Western Visayas (Region 6) was a far second with a gold-silver-bronze tally of 59-52-54 while Region 4-A wound up third again  with 49-41-43.

Prisaa national chairman Emmanuel Angeles  said the 2012 games was a big success during the closing ceremony.

“This is the most well-organized and well-supported sportsfest I have witnessed,” he said. “I would also like to congratulate Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama and the Prisaa member schools in Cebu for their all-out support for the Games.Without them this event would not have been possible.”

The Central Visayans picked up four out of the eight golds at stake Wednesday in boxing, which was marking its second appearance in the event.

Light flyweight Ian Rafuela set off their bid by stopping Region 12’s William Orendain in two minutes of the second round.
Flyweight Dann Lou Codilla followed it up with a 4-1 win over Cordillera Autonomous Region’s Harmon Jay Viado,  Zoro Babel Alsola eked out a 3-2 win over Zamboanga’s lanky Jestoni Autida before Robert Etorima capped Region 7’s mighty show by forcing Jethro Maligro to retire in 1:58 of the opening round.
