Filoil Flying V Preseason: La Salle outlasts Ateneo, earns quarters berth

MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle Green Archers booked a ticket in the quarterfinals after grinding out a 66-61 over their archrival, the Ateneo Blue Eagles, Saturday in the 2011 Filoil Flying V Preseason Premiere Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

LA Revilla came up big in the clutch as he scored four of his 12 points down the stretch with his last basket extending La Salle’s lead to four, 65-61 with only 15.8 ticks left.

“We made some stops in the last few minutes,” said DLSU coach Dindo Pumaren, whose squad will face the topseeded and undefeated FEU in Group B in the quarters.

Revilla actually fired 10 points in the last quarter alone.

Meanwhile, the San Beda Red Lions ran roughshod over the out of sync University of Santo Tomas, 85-72, to claim first place in Group A.

Garvo Lanete and Ola Adeogun had 12 points apiece for the Red Lions, who finished the eliminations with a 5-2 mark.

In the first game, Nate Matute unleashed 21 of his 26 points beyond-the-arc to help the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers survive the Adamson Falcons, 84-81.
