Perpetual Help downs Adamson in Shakey’s V-League quarterfinals

MANILA, Philippines—Perpetual Help continued its fine form in the playoffs as it hammered out a hard-fought 25-23, 25-22, 26-24 triumph over Adamson in the 9th Shakey’s V-League first conference Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.

A blistering run in the third set capped the victory for the Lady Altas, who are now at 3-1, and thwarted the dangerous Lady Falcons from forging another set.

The teams carry over their standings, minus the wins over the booted out opponents, from the eliminations to the quarterfinals and the four with the best records advance to the semifinals.

Already at the brink of losing the third set, 24-22, Perpetual Help turned to its power-hitting import Pornpimol Kunbang and tough wall of defense to turn back the comeback of Adamson.

Pornpimol finished with 13 points, built on 10 kills and three blocks, while Sandra de los Santos starred with 19 points.

Sterling output from veterans Nerissa Bautista and Pau Soriano weren’t enough to stir the Lady Falcons to a victory, struggling close out the tightly played sets.

A crosscourt hit from Bautista, who had a game-high 22 markers, gave Adamson the set point in the third set but the squad yielded the next four points en route to its third loss.
