F2 juggernaut claims fourth victim; CPS teens log first win

F2 Logistics’s path toward the first ever Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Champions League women’s title got wider and less obstructed.
The Cargo Movers cleared a hurdle on Tuesday, leaning on Kim Kianna Dy to claim a fourth straight victory by crushing Tuguegarao Perlas, 25-18, 25-18, 25-19, to remain unbeaten in four matches at Aquamarine Recreation Center in Lipa City.
While the Cargo Movers have two more games to go starting on Wednesday, they are already looking at Thursday’s matchup versus a formidable foe as they hope to claim a championship right in the first tournament they played in after a long hiatus.
“We will prepare the same way we have prepared in our previous games,” said F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus. “Chery Tiggo (their last opponent) is no pushover, because it has high moral coming from the PVL (Premier Volleyball League) championship. The only good thing is that Jaja (Santiago) is not here.”
The Cargo Movers actually have another game before facing the Pro Crossovers—F2 Logistics plays winless Baguio on Wednesday—But the Thursday match against Chery Tiggo could very well be the championship decider.
“Hopefully we stay healthy,” said De Jesus, whose wards are coming off a nearly two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Everyone is making an effort, maybe they really want to keep all the sets.”
F2 Logistics did not compete in the inaugural professional tournament launched by the PVL.
Dy, playing in place of rested star Kalei Mau, scored 12 points to lead F2 Logistics, which also drew 10-point performances from Majoy Baron, Aby Maraño and setter Iris Tolenada also distributed 20 excellent sets while running plays for the Cargo Movers.
Tolenada subbed for F2 main setter Kim Fajardo, who is healing a hurt knee.
“She has adapted quickly to the system,” said De Jesus of the Fil-Am setter.
F2’s performance completely overshadowed a first win by the teenagers of California Precision Sports (CPS), which clipped the Baguio Highlanders, 25-14, 23-25, 25-11, 25-12. INQ
