Olu Ashaolu no complaints on PBA’s compressed schedule

MANILA, Philippines—The PBA usually had teams play twice in three days at most but that it’s been a difference story since the pandemic hit.
As the league played through the COVID-19 pandemic, teams were forced to play a minimum of two games and sometimes a maximum of three matches a week due to a condensed conference.
Just was the case with Alaska as the club played in the 2021 Governors’ Cup opener on Wednesday and will have its third on Sunday.
A loaded week as all things are presented but returning forward Olu Ashaolu isn’t one to complain.
“I mean I don’t make excuses right? This is our job, this is what we love to do,” said Ashaolu following the Aces’ 99-94 win over San Miguel Friday at Ynares Sports Arena. “People work five days a week to six days a week and they don’t complain about working back-to-back.”
“How can we complain about work or playing two games in three days, honestly this is something we love to do.”
Ashaolu, who previously played for NLEX in 2018, finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists as he led the Aces to a 2-0 start in the conference.
The bruising power forward added that playing the sport he grew up with and loving is better than being stuck behind a desk.
“We can either do something else like an office job we don’t like but we get to play basketball so we shouldn’t have any complaints about being able to play basketball two times in three days,” said Ashaolu.
“It shouldn’t be a complaint.”
