Midlands LPGT leg unwraps with Harmie fancied

There will be just a handful of ladies given strong chances of ending the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour (LPGT) season on a winning note considering how tough conditions could be starting on Wednesday when the P750,000 ICTSI Midlands Classic tees off in chilly Tagaytay.

Harmie Constantino is foremost among them, with the former national team mainstay coming into the 54-hole event seeking a third win in her outstanding rookie season over a lean field at the windy, bending layout littered with ravines and sleek putting surfaces.

“I have no expectations. But it’s been fun getting to play competitively, and honestly, there’s been a lot of lessons to learn so I’m just hoping to play well and enjoy the last tournament of the year,” said Constantino.

Sunshine Baraquiel is another player to watch, having broken through at the adjacent Highlands layout where the elements were also brutal that it led to a winning score of nine-over-par.

“It’s the last tournament for the year, so I’ll do my best to finish strong,” said Baraquiel, a lady pilot who decided to give pro golf a shot when the pandemic started.

Daniella Uy and Chanelle Avaricio will also be there as both, like Baraquiel, seek follow-ups to their maiden triumphs.

“My game plan is basically the same as last week. Stay focused and have fun,” said Uy. “Hopefully, I would be able to win again.”

Chihiro Ikeda, who was either tied for second or finished runner-up in the last four legs, will be absent after going home to Davao.
