B-MEG booked a second straight victory last night after repulsing Barako Bull, 95-90, on a night when Powerade finally won a game in the PBA Governors’ Cup eliminations at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Marcus Blakely scored 29 points, had 15 rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks despite an aching back and carried the Llamados to a 2-1 record after the Tigers ripped Alaska, 114-97.
Marc Pingris returned after a two-game absence to shoot 11 and grab the same number of boards, while Willie Miller couldn’t save the Energy from losing a second straight game and dropping to 1-2 despite shooting 29.
New import Omar Sneed, with jet lag and all, missed a triple double by just a rebound with 13 points and 11 assists, and Gary David scattered 31 as the Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak dating back to the Commissioner’s Cup to be at 1-2.
Alaska, after triumphing over Barako Bull last week, fell to 1-2 as well.
Meanwhile, Barangay Ginebra and Meralco try to bounce back from losses today when they clash in a Phoenix Fuel-presented road game at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
Game time is 6:45 p.m.
Sneed took over from the ineffective Rashad McCants and did most of everything required of him despite arriving only Tuesday.
“We’re happy with the move of coach (Bo Perasol) to replace our (original) import,” David told reporters after the game. “He’s a winner and we’re happy.”
David, who is the seventh leading scorer in the import-spiced event with 25.5 points a night, hit 10 of his total in the fourth period, including a breakaway slam dunk.
