MANILA, Philippines—The contract dispute between NorthPort and Greg Slaughter continues with the veteran center claiming the offer by the Batang Pier “was less than half of what I was currently being paid.”

“So who’s the one that’s lying?🤔” Slaughter said in an Instagram post on Sunday.

“The ‘offer’ sent via courier and email was only to retain my rights so I couldn’t go anywhere. It was less than half of what I was currently being paid by Northport.”

An Inquirer source said Slaughter was counter offered the maximum salary of P420,000 a month “shortly after his contract expired” at the end of January.

The 7-foot Slaughter, who was Best Player of the Conference in the 2017 Governors’ Cup, appeared in only four games in the 2021 Governors’ Cup where he averaged 14.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.

The Batang Pier came just a game short of making the playoffs in the season-ending conference that saw the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings repeat as champions.

In a swipe at NorthPort, Slaughter’s Instagram post was the final seconds of the game between the Batang Pier and the Magnolia Hotshots during the 2021 Philippine Cup last September.

In that game, Slaughter was subbed out for the smaller Sidney Onwubere right before Magnolia was about to inbound the ball with 2.6 seconds left. The Hotshots won the game at the buzzer with Calvin Abueva winning it off an inbound pass from Rome dela Rosa.

“This is only one incident of many strange things,” wrote Slaughter. “Is this the way players who try to win games are rewarded in this league?”
