SEA Games: Filipino fencers falter in women’s epee, men’s sabre individual

MANILA, Philippines —  Four Filipino fencers were eliminated in the women’s epee and men’s sabre individual competition of the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Friday at Hanoi Indoor Games Place in Vietnam.

Anna Gabriella Guinto was dominated by Singaporean Elle Meihui Koh, 15-4, in the elimination round of the women’s Epee individual.

Her compatriot Ivy Claire Dinoy also yielded to Kiria Tikanah Abdul Rahman of Singapore, 15-7.

Koh won gold beating her fellow Singaporean, 12-11, in the final.

The national fencing team also went empty handed in the men’s saber individual.

Christian Chester Concepcion, who won silver in the 2019 SEA Games here, fell to hometown bet An Vu Thanh, 15-6, in the elimination round.

Daniel Villanueva succumbed to Thai Voragun Srinualnad, 15-9.

Vietnam and Thailand clashed in the Sabre Final with Thanh outlasting Srinualnad, 15-7, for the gold medal.
