Ateneo wallops Adamson, arranges clash with JRU in Fr. Martins Summer Cup
MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo walloped a hardluck Adamson, 71-44, to arrange a finals clash with Jose Rizal University Thursday in the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup at the Trinity gym.
In the earlier game, JRU clipped University of the East — both surprise entries into the semifinals, 64-57, to make it to the finals.
The Blue Eagles, who also advanced to the semifinals of the Filoil Pre-Season Cup Wednesday, toyed with the undermanned-Falcons, who missed even point-blank attempts, all game long.
Article continues after this advertisementA 10-2 run, bridging the third and fourth periods, capped by a jumper by Ryan Buenafe gave Ateneo a 58-30 edge, its biggest of the night.
Oping Sumalinog led the balanced scoring with 12 points while Greg Slaughter and Nico Salva combined for 20 points.
Adamson, still trying to find the right combination to plug the holes its four key players left, played sans injured main man Alex Nuyles, and suspended Jericho Cruz, who has been a solid contributor in the pre-season.
