MANILA, Philippines—It has been a tradition for the Lambda Rho Beta Fraternity, of San Beda University, to hold its quarterly golf tournament but the pandemic has limited movements and prompted the fraternity to postpone several of these events.

Finally, last June 26, the traditional tournament pushed through at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club after COVID-19 protocols were eased by authorities.

The event was dubbed “Batch Parañaque Uno Cup 99” after its organizers. Attendance was high among fraternity brothers.

The weather was perfect for tee-off time. Organizers also made sure that COVID guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) were followed.

But these did not dampen the enthusiasm of participants, who turned the fund-raiser event into an exciting and competitive game of golf.

“A gathering like this presents a number of opportunities to raise funds, but aside from financial sponsorship, we leaned profoundly on personal relationships and solidarity,” said lawyer Herbert DG Matienzo, grand Rhoan and event chair.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to the fraternity’s fund for barristers, or fraternity members taking the Bar, and its scholarship program.
