PH girls settle for fourth in World Series
Bago City settled for a fourth place finish after getting blanked by Chesterfield, Virginia, 9-0, on Tuesday (Manila time) at the conclusion of the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, North Carolina.
The Philippine squad could only produce one hit while ace pitcher Jacey Pajotal allowed four combined runs in the second and third innings as Chesterville ran away with the battle for the crumbs.
Hewitt, Texas, nipped Delmar, Maryland, 5-4, to win the Little League crown.
Bago City won three and lost two during the tournament for girls from 10 to 12 years old.
Pajotal and Chear Blancia led the charge as Bago City won its first two games over Alberta from Canada (1-0) and Bologna of Italy (4-1).
But Bago City was handed its first loss by Delmar, 2-0, after failing to produce a single hit and in the process got relegated to the loser’s bracket.
That didn’t prevent the representatives of the Asia-Pacific Region to barge its way to the semis by way of a 1-0 victory over Milford, Connecticut, and a chance for payback against Delmar.
However, Bago City was hammered, 11-0, by Delmar in a semifinal match that ended after four innings due to the mercy rule.
During the campaign, Bago City was given the Girls With Game Team Sportsmanship Award by tournament organizers. INQ
