MANILA, Philippines—Migs Oczon’s first official game in the NCAA was a colorful one.

After making the move from National University to College of St. Benilde in the offseason, Oczon immediately became a scoring option for the Blazers.

Despite playing in a more “physical” league, the 21-year-old seamlessly scored 13 points and four assists on 54.5 percent shooting for the Blazers.

“It’s really more physical here in the NCAA but I believe the competition is the same. The UAAP may be more famous but for me it’s the same,” Oczon said after their 86-69 win against the Lyceum Pirates at San Juan Arena on Sunday.

“There’s still room for improvement. I’m happy with my game but I’m not content. I need to work more and focus on one game at a time,” he added.

Prior to his first NCAA game, the backcourt player averaged 4.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs in UAAP Season 82.

Despite being in a team full of guards, Oczon believes he will still flourish under head coach Charles Tiu.

Bannered by fellow playmaker Robi Nayve and star big man Will Gozum, the 6-footer will be a dependable option for Tiu in Season 98.

Other than the coaching staff, Oczon is also elated with how the Benilde community welcomed him prior to the young season.

“Benilde’s culture makes me feel more welcomed. The coaching staff here is also, I believe, one of the best in the country right now. I believe I will grow more as a player and a person in Benilde.”
