Sun beats Fever 88-85 in overtime

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut – Kara Lawson contributed 22 points and four rebounds as the Connecticut Sun outlasted the Indiana Fever 88-85 in overtime on Tuesday.

Tina Charles had 14 points and eight rebounds for Connecticut (9-2), which leads the Eastern Conference. Renee Montgomery had 12 points and four rebounds and Kalana Greene scored 12 points.

Katie Douglas had a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds and four assists for the Fever (5-4). Tamika Catchings added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

At Atlanta, Cappie Pondexter had 14 points and a season-high 13 assists and Essence Carson added 14 points in New York’s victory over the home team.

The Dream dropped their second straight game with Angel McCoughtry, the WNBA’s leading scorer and shot blocker, injured and unable to play.

Sancho Lyttle and Lindsey Harding each finished with 13 points for Atlanta (4-7). Lyttle pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

New York (4-7) had plenty of incentive after last Friday’s debacle, a 42-point loss that was the worst in team history and included 34-point halftime deficit that was the largest in league history.
