Cebu CC will be ready for top senior action next year
CEBU—Cebu Country Club knows that it will be seeing action in the Championship division for the next Philippine Airlines Seniors Interclub tournament next summer, and stalwart Carl Almario is confident that they will be a better lot unlike the team that fell just short last Saturday.
“We will be welcoming back two very good players,” Almario told the Inquirer after the team accepted the Founders trophy, a lower title they were happy to win after threatening to win the overall championship. “We will be stronger next year with Montito (Garcia) back.”
Garcia has been a major senior force for so long but opted to sit this one out because of health issue. A Korean, whom Almario didn’t name, will also be joining next year.
Article continues after this advertisementCebu CC had the overall lead going into the final round, only for its closing quartet to fall short. Luisita eventually completed a rally, while Manila Southwoods announced its coming by finishing second.
“I just wished we could have played better,” Almario said. “That’s how the cookie crumbles, I guess. Luisita played well. They shot decent scores and they deserved to win.”
Meanwhile, the official practice rounds for the Regular Men’s championship start at both Cebu CC and Club Filipino on Monday with Manila Southwoods
playing with a huge bull’s eye behind its back with every team gunning to unseat the Carmona-based bets.
