PBA: Adrian Wong looks to carry MVP showing into Magnolia’s bid

ILOILO—Adrian Wong’s sterling performance that earned him the Most Valuable Player award in Friday night’s Greats-Stalwarts showcase is something he could tap into as Magnolia’s bid in PBA Governors’ Cup enters a critical juncture.

“I can carry this heading into the playoffs,” he told reporters on the heels of a 29-point performance that helped Team Greats to a 158-138 victory at City of Passi Arena here.

The Hotshots are currently 7-4 in the season-ending tournament and are tied at 5th with the Meralco Bolts.

“We’ll see how every other team pans out after the games, but we’ll just control what we can control and we’ll see from there,” Wong said.

The Magnolia swingman scored 18 of his total output in the payoff frame where Team Greats wrested control of the contest.

Wong was also the first player ever to hit a long-distance shot that was worth four points.

“After just I was feeling, so I just kept rolling with it, see what happens after,” he said of his feat, which likely also earned him a place in the league’s history books.

Wong said that as he was catching fire, so did other youngsters. And that’s what made the duel all the more fun to watch.

“It was competitive,” he said of the duel which also featured some splendid performances from Phoenix’s Encho Serrano (40 points) Terrafirma’s Javi Gomez de Liaño (30), and NorthPort’s Joshua Munzon (32).

“I felt like people were going hard. Except at the end when we know the score’s done. But for the most part, it was really competitive. And I like the competitiveness, it makes the game really fun,” he added.
