PBA: Yeng Guiao inks five-year extension with Rain or Shine

MANILA, Philippines—Yeng Guiao has committed to coach the young Rain or Shine squad for the long haul after agreeing on a five-year contract extension.

Guiao met with management on Wednesday to finalize the deal that will see the veteran mentor handle the Elasto Painters until 2028. No further details were given when the team made the announcement on social media.

The agreement came despite Rain or Shine ending the PBA’s 47th season by missing the quarterfinals of the Governors’ Cup following a 2-9 record.
Guiao came back to the team he guided to two championships before the Commissioner’s Cup after coaching NLEX from 2016 up to the 2022 Philippine Cup.

In his first conference back, Guiao took the Elasto Painters to the quarterfinals of the midseason tournament after eliminating the Road Warriors in a playoff for the No. 8 spot.

Rain or Shine and Guiao have plans to upgrade the youthful roster through the draft, which they will look to maximize when the proceedings are held in September.

The Elasto Painters are said to have two first round picks in the draft.
