PH women’s volleyball team in Group B for SEA Games; men’s team missing

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine women’s volleyball team has been grouped with Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore in the upcoming 2023 Southeast Asian Games next month in Cambodia.

The Filipinos will be in Group B while defending champion Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia make up Group B.

The women’s squad, bolstered by players from recent Premier Volleyball League champion Creamline, will be spearheaded by team captain Alyssa Valdez.

Meanwhile, the Philippine men’s volleyball team was not included in the draw published online by Cambodia 2023 official Facebook page.

National teams commission chair Tonyboy Liao said the Philippine National Volleyball Federation has sought clarification from the Philippine Olympic Committee.

“We are now checking with POC because it’s POC who’s submitting the entry by numbers & names,” Liao told the Inquirer.

Teams in Group A of the men’s play are Indonesia, Cambodia and Singapore while Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar are slotted in Group B.

The men’s team, headlined by skipper Vince Mangulabnan and Jau Umandal, is leaving on Sunday for a 15-day training camp in Japan.
