SEA Games 2023: PH sweeps all 4 gold medals in obstacle race

PHNOM PENH—Team Philippines completed a sweep of all four gold medals in obstacle racing at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.

Mervin Guarte, Ahgie Radan, Elias Tabac and Jay-R De Castro capped the nation’s scintillating performance in the sport with a victory in the men’s relay on Sunday.

The Filipinos clocked 24.47 seconds in the 100m race while Malaysia checked in at 25.15 seconds for the silver.

The Philippine women’s relay team earlier won the gold medal by the skin of its teeth after beating Indonesia.

Mecca Cortizano touched the pole at the end ahead of the Indonesia finisher as the squad clocked 33.73 seconds for the country’s third straight gold in the sport. Indonesia, leading throughout the race prior to the final 20 meters of the course, timed 33.73 seconds.

The PH obstacle race squad likewise topped the men’s and women’s individual 100m races the other day.

By grabbing all the available golds, the country replicated its output in the 2019 SEA Games in Manila when the national obstacle racers went six of six.
