Nesthy Petecio, four others boxers assured of silver medals in SEA Games 2023

MANILA, Philippines—Tokyo Olympian Nesthy Petecio and four other Filipinos are assured of silver medals in boxing after advancing to the finals on Wednesday in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at Chroy Changvar Convention: Hall G.

Petecio defeated Cambodia’s own Vy Sreyrsros by unanimous decision in the semifinals of the women’s 57kg division.

She will come home with a silver medal at least when she faces Indonesia’s Ratna Sari Devi in the gold medal bout.

Rogen Ladon also assured himself of a silver medal finish by defeating Malaysia’s Muhammad Abdul Ariffin via split decision, 4-1.

He will be facing Thailand’s Thanarat Saengphe, who claimed a unanimous decision win over Myanmar’s Lin Htut paing, in the final round of the men’s 51kg category.

Ian Clark Bautista also advanced to the gold medal match of the men’s 57kg category after beating Naing Laitt of Myanmar in convincing fashion.

He will be facing Asri Udin of Indonesia for a shot at the gold.

Norlan Petecio kept the Philippines’ winning streak going in the 67kg division as he defeated Singapore’s Jun Jie Tan via split decision, setting up a gold medal match with Thailand’s Bunjong Sinsiri.

John Nobel Marvin had the same fate as his fellow Filipinos after trouncing home bet Nasredinov Anvar in the semifinals, 5-0, in the 80kg class.

Three more Filipino fighters, including another Tokyo medalist in Carlo Paalam, are set to fight for a chance at gold on Thursday.
