Gilas Women lose to Japan to end Jones Cup stint with 1-4 card
MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas women’s team closed out its 42nd William Jones Cup campaign with a 95-88 loss to Japan’s Chanson V-Magic on Wednesday at the Heping Basketball Gymnasium in Taipei.
Takanohashi Kimika fired eight three-pointers to finish with 32 points and lead Japan’s comeback from a 65-69 deficit heading into the fourth quarter, which they dominated.
Article continues after this advertisementChanson swept all its five matches to rule the Jones Cup as Koike Haruke was also instrumental with 14 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds.
Jack Animam led Gilas Women with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds but it went for naught as they finished their campaign with just one win over Iran in five games.
Janine Pontejos had 20 points in the loss.
