Inquirer reporter hurt in Big Dome accident

Philippine Daily Inquirer sports reporter Denison Rey Dalupang was hurt after covering Day 2 of the Fiba (International Basketball Federation) World Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum late Saturday night after a loose parking signage fell on his head.

Dalupang was rushed to a hospital for tests and confinement after the accident.

Walking to their respective vehicles inside the parking space after their coverage, Dalupang and Rappler’s Delfin Dioquino passed the heavy parking sign when a strong gust of wind felled the metal-framed signage hard on the back of Dalupang’s head.

“He was conscious and could still talk (after the incident), but he had a bump on his head and was dizzy,” Dioquino said. “He was brought to the hospital where he had a CT-Scan and X-ray.”

A guard of the parking space near Shopwise and Cubao Expo, Vergel Talabi, also witnessed the incident and called for medics and an ambulance that rushed the Inquirer reporter to World Citi Medical Center along Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City.

Dalupang, who was ordered to rest for the next 48 hours, was released on Sunday morning and is still recuperating from the head injury he sustained. He was also taken out of the coverage team for the time being. INQ
