So joins tough India all-GM tilt

Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So resumes his quest to break the Elo 2700-mark when he competes in the inaugural Airports Authority of India Grandmasters Chess Tournament on June 22 to July 4 in New Delhi.

So, joint first-placer in the recent Sigeman and Co. tournament in Sweden, left for India last night hoping to improve his 2667 rating.

This will be India’s first-ever Category 17 tournament with six GMs playing in a double round robin for the total prize of $24,500.

Also in the fold are women’s world champ Hou Yifan (Elo 2612) of China, Fabiano Caruana (2714) of Italy, Viktor Laznicka (2681) of Czech Republic, Parimarjan Negi (2622) and Krishnan Sasikiran (2676) of India.
