MANILA, Philippines—The MPBL will have a new star attraction in its midst.

In a sudden announcement on Friday, the Iloilo United-Royals introduced University of the Philippines product CJ Cansino as the squad’s newest signing.

“Please welcome the newest member of the Royal family. Former King Maroon, CJ Cansino,” the post said, including a picture of Cansino with the squad’s officials.

The former University of Santo Tomas standout capped off his UAAP collegiate career with a runner-up finish in Season 86.

While he only scored five points in his exit game for UP, Cansino was still instrumental in the Fighting Maroons’ run.

The UST high school sensation posted averages of 12.46 points and 3.15 rebounds per game.

Cansino already hinted at his future right after Game 3 of the Finals where the Fighting Maroons lost, 73-69.

“We’ll just wait for whatever opportunity comes our way and hopefully, whatever those may be, we’ll be grabbing it,” said the streak-shooting swingman.

That opportunity turned out to be for the MPBL
