So in one of the most important games of the season, Barroca showed why he’s trusted by the Hotshots by powering them to an 88-80 victory over San Miguel in Game 3 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
When coach Chito Victolero needed it the most, the veteran guard top-scored for Magnolia with 20 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals to avoid going down 0-3 at the hands of the Beermen.

PBA chief reminds Calvin Abueva of past suspension after Game 2 antics
MANILA, Philippines—PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial jogged Calvin Abueva’s memory to teach him a lesson in Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
Right before the tip-off for Game 3 at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, Marcial met with members of the media to bare his conversation with Abueva after his antics on Sunday merited him a whopping P100,000 fine for mocking San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent’s eyesight disability.
According to the commissioner, he reminded the Magnolia swingman about his lengthy indefinite ban from the PBA that stemmed from several incidents.

PBA Finals: Beermen focused on more important goal
San Miguel will try to set a new team mark and move closer to rewriting another on Wednesday when it battles Magnolia once again in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
And yet, no one in the team seems to be interested in talking about a franchise record 12th straight win with a victory in their 7:30 p.m. Game 3 encounter at Smart Araneta Coliseum—with that same win moving the Beermen closer to a record-extending 29th league title.
PBA Finals: San Miguel’s ‘Martilyo Gang’ shows worth in Game 2
MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel Beermen may not run out of names they call themselves soon, and rightfully so.
Jericho Cruz, who’s part of the Beermen’s second unit, admitted that other than the “Death 15” moniker that coach Jorge Gallent gave them, they have another term for San Miguel’s bench.
Inside that “Death 15” lies the “Martilyo (hammer) Gang.” Don’t get it twisted–it’s not a heinous gang that does its crime with hammers.
Calvin Abueva fined for mocking gesture in PBA Finals Game 2
MANILA, Philippines—Magnolia’s Calvin Abueva has been fined P100,000 for his mocking gesture towards San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent in Game 2 of the PBA Finals.
On Tuesday, the PBA released a statement saying Abueva has been penalized after violating a league rule which stated that “any person who offends the dignity of any person on account of ‘physical disability’ shall be subject to a fine not lower than P100,000.”
Down 0-2, Magnolia faces Abueva absence in PBA Finals Game 3
In a huddle with reporters just by the team’s dugout, Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero on Sunday night identified a laundry list of issues his charges have to address to make their PBA Finals series with San Miguel truly competitive.
“We need to do a better job finding better shots,” he said with a long face on the heels of a 109-85 Game 2 beatdown at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. “We need to fix our transition defense also because they had so many threes, especially in the first quarter.”
