The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, when asked what motivates them to prove doubters wrong in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament Final Four, said nothing about looking to add to their vast collection of championships.

“We are super eager to enter the Finals. Season 84 was our inspiration to get here,’’ said ace setter Tin Ubaldo after they reduced their semifinal clash opposite National University to a rubber match not many believed was necessary after the Lady Bulldogs came into the round on a rampaging seven-game streak.

The Lady Tamaraws, though, have all the mental edge on their side going into the 4 p.m. game at Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday after dumping the top-ranked Lady Bulldogs in straight sets last Saturday. The winner advances to face University of Santo Tomas in a best-of-three title series starting on Sunday. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines — Despite her knee injury, Em Banagua vows to give her all in the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses’ return to the UAAP women’s volleyball Finals.

Banagua hurt her left knee in the first set after a bad landing on her attempt to save the ball, but that didn’t stop her from helping the twice-to-beat UST book a trip to the Season 86 Finals after dethroning La Salle in five sets, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-7, on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The rookie middle blocker shrugged off her injury, which sidelined her in a couple of second-round games, through ice and pain relievers, coupled that with her determination to contribute for the Tigresses. FULL STORY

Not many would have listed University of Santo Tomas (UST) as a potential finalist before the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament started.

After all, the Golden Tigresses did not look like they had a lot to work with on paper, with mostly rookies and sophomores making up their roster after the departure of most of their seniors—including former Queen Tigress Eya Laure.

UST’s current lineup was also not the most desirable when talking about height as the Tigresses are only averaging around 6 feet—but all those factors that made a lot of people doubt their chances was not a hindrance for the Tigresses to show their grit to finally make their way back to the Finals. University of Santo Tomas (UST) couldn’t have gotten off to a better start in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

Angge Poyos wants more than that.

“We had a beautiful start to the season; I hope we can end it in a beautiful way, too,” Poyos, the smashing rookie Tigress, said late Sunday after leading her team to a nerve-testing 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-7 victory over La Salle during their Final Four showdown at Mall of Asia Arena.
