UAAP: Warriors find confidence rebuilt after Archers upset

University of the East (UE) coach Jack Santiago was certain of one thing and his faith in that never wavered despite back-to-back losses to start the Red Warriors’ UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament stint.
“I told the boys that this batch is capable of winning games and beating the No. 1 team,” Santiago said.
The Warriors validated his belief in them, holding on for a 75-71 victory over defending champion La Salle last Sunday.
Manaytay: UST going after top UAAP teams now

Christian Manaytay has been with University of Santo Tomas since it was in the doldrums of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
“Back then, I was losing my will to play because we were always losing,” Manaytay, one of the talents retained by coach Pido Jarencio in his comeback as UST coach, said.
And through Jarencio’s recalibration and recruitment, Manaytay’s will to play at a higher level has been rekindled, especially with the success that the Tigers has been experiencing this season 87.

MANILA, Philippines—Lady Luck has been kind to University of the East coach Jack Santiago.
Santiago owed part of the Red Warriors’ surprisingly good start in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament to his revamped lineup which was lucky enough to land three promising guards.
The addition of John Abate, Rainer Maga and Wello Lingolingo came just when UE needed to fill a gaping hole following the departure of its former star Rey Remogat.
“We just needed to cover the spot left by Remogat but actually, these players who are with me right now, these guards… they’re here because I just got lucky,” Santiago, the former longtime La Salle assistant coach, told Inquirer Sports on Sunday following UE’s stunning 75-71 win over defending champion La Salle on Sunday.
