MANILA, Philippines — Forthsky Padrigao lamented failing to give University of Santo Tomas a historic home win on Saturday.

Padrigao, though, remains confident that the Growling Tigers will regain their form with four games left in their bid to return to the Final Four in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

MANILA, Philippines–Ateneo strung up its first back-to-back wins in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament after beating shorthanded University of Santo Tomas, 67-64, on Saturday at UST’s Quadricentennial Pavilion.

The Blue Eagles improved to a 3-6 (win-loss) standing after shutting down the Growling Tigers, who played without their star big man Mo Tounkara, behind the double-digit contributions of Andrew Bongo, Ian Espinosa, Shawn Tuano and Chris Koon.

MANILA, Philippines — Kent Pastrana overcame her home game struggles, delivering the baskets when it mattered most to lead the University of Santo Tomas past Ateneo, 77-73, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball tournament on Saturday at UST’s Quadricentennial Pavilion.

Pastrana was a marked player in the first three quarters but got her act together in the fourth, unleashing a personal 7-2 run to give UST a 10-point cushion, 69-59, with 4:09 remaining.

University of Santo Tomas (UST) is planning to make a final appeal for Mo Tounkara’s eligibility for individual awards in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament, sources told the Inquirer on Friday.

The move comes after the league announced that it denied UST’s appeal for Tounkara to avoid a one-game suspension automatically slapped on the beanpole center from Mali after he was ejected in the Tigers’ 94-87 overtime loss to defending champion La Salle last Wednesday.
