Sandugo-SSC, Army dispute V-League Open solo lead

PHILIPPINE Army and Sandugo-San Sebastian go separate ways as the two unbeaten squads fight for the solo lead in the Shakey’s V-League Open tonight at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The Lady Troopers and the Lady Stags, both toting perfect 3-0 cards, clash in the 6 o’clock  nightcap of a three-game bill.

Ateneo shoots for a third straight triumph against Cagayan Valley earlier at 2 p.m., while Philippine Navy and Far Eastern University gun for their first victory at 4.

The Lady Eagles claimed solo third at 2-1 following a straight-set win over the Lady Tamaraws, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21, on Friday night.

Alyssa Valdez tossed in 12 points to lead the Lady Eagles, who have also been relying on the strong plays of Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio, Gretchen Ho and Ella de Jesus.

But the Lady Eagles brace for a tight duel against the Rising Suns, the newcomers giving the rest of the field a tough fight.

The Rising Suns came close to pulling off an upset over the Lady Stags, but dropped the deciding frame in a 17-25, 25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 15-10 decision on Friday.

Sandra delos Santos and Honey Tubino have been leading the Rising Suns along with Thai reinforcements Sutadta Chuewulim and Kunbang Pornpimol.

Thais Jeng Bualee and Utaiwan Kaensing have also been pivotal in the Lady Stags’ bid along with former MVPs Suzanne Roces and Nene Bautista.

Tournament organizer Sports Vision said games are aired via live streaming on www.v-league.ph and on a delayed schedule on AKTV.
