Philta Negros tourney kicks off

Stefan Suarez leads a field of former winners when the third leg of the Philta-Palawan Pawnshop regional age-group tennis championships presented by Babolat kick off today at La Carlota Tennis Club in Negros Occidental.

Suarez, who won two titles during last week’s second leg at Center Court Tennis Club in Bacolod City, will banner a promising bunch of players that include champions Keanna Flores, Godfrey Seno and Kristin Salimbangon of Cebu, Karl Baran and Toni Rose Raymundo of La Carlota, Ceazar Fernando of Bacolod and Jean Herra Sunio of Iloilo.

The 15-stage tourney, aimed at discovering fresh talents from across the country, is sponsored by Palawan Pawnshop through chief operating officer Bobby Castro and Technosports through president Guillermo Nocom.

There will be competitions in 10-under unisex, and boys and girls 12-, 14-, 16- and 18-under classes.

Cebu City will host the circuit’s next two legs, according to Philippine Tennis Association regional vice president Bong Arguelles. For details call, 0915-4046464 or e-mail [email protected].
