MANILA, Philippines—Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao defended his reaction during a heated moment in Game 3 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals against TNT on Sunday at Araneta Coliseum.

Midway through the third quarter of the Elasto Painters’ 107-86 blowout win over the Tropang 5G, Guiao shouted profanities at TNT’s Glenn Khobuntin after a hard foul on Adrian Nocum.

While Nocum was airborne, Khobuntin went for the block but ended up pulling the Rain or Shine rookie down in a dangerous landing.

MANILA, Philippines—To avoid falling into a 0-3 hole in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals against TNT, Rain or Shine needed someone to step up offensively.

Coach Yeng Guiao’s starters began the game firing on all cylinders, but Rain or Shine needed an extra boost in the second half of Game 3.

Enter Anton Asistio, who shot the lights out in the Elasto Painters’ 107-86 rout of the Tropang 5G at Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.

Anton Asistio’s hot shooting spearheaded the convincing romp after blowing an 18-point lead and being forced to overtime by three Calvin Oftana freethrows in Game 2 as the Elasto Painters finally got a victory in the best-of-seven series.

Asistio finished with 24 points on four triples and two four-pointers for Rain or Shine, which led by a high of 29.

Pogoy doubts he can show up as TNT guns for 3-0 lead

The injury bug continues to hound TNT, which has the opportunity to take a commanding 3-0 lead over Rain or Shine in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.

This time, it is RR Pogoy who has been listed as doubtful for Sunday’s Game 3 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Pogoy himself made his status known for the 5 p.m. affair, which will see the Tropang 5G bid for a chance to move on the cusp of advancing to the Finals, the last step in their historic quest to complete the sixth Grand Slam in PBA history.

“The doctor said that it’s day-to-day, but I doubt if I could give it a go on Sunday,” Pogoy said after being forced to sit the remainder of the 111-103 overtime win at Ninoy Aquino Stadium due to a hamstring problem.

MANILA, Philippines–The PBA acknowledged that Calvin Oftana should have been awarded four free throws instead of three during the final seconds of regulation in TNT’s 113-105 overtime victory over Rain or Shine in Game 2 of the Philippine Cup semifinals on Friday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Deputy commissioner Eric Castro made the announcement after Oftana made all three charities with 7.7 seconds that tied the score at 99-all and eventually forced an extension where the Tropang 5G were able to prevail over the Elasto Painters.

While the league determined in its review that Oftana’s attempt was a three-pointer, videos from media outlets had a clear view that the TNT star was fouled by Gian Mamuyac from beyond the four-point arc.

MANILA, Philippines—Rain or Shine guard Gian Mamuyac had no trouble putting up with his missed game-winner in a Game 2 overtime loss to TNT in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals on Friday.

What was a hard pill to swallow for Mamuyac, however, was his shooting foul on TNT forward Calvin Oftana, who hit three free throws with 7.7 ticks left in regulation to send the game into OT. The Tropang 5G went on to win, 113-105.

Mamuyac had a chance to redeem himself but misfired on a three-point try as time expired in regulation.
