MANILA, Philippines—The player exodus from the University of the Philippines following the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament continued on Wednesday.

Already having to deal with the graduation of the famed “Maroon 5,” the Season 88 runner-ups now have to swallow the departure of Mark Belmonte.

Although Belmonte didn’t have the flashiest stint with UP last year, he still turned in some commendable contributions during the Fighting Maroons’ championship run in Season 87.

UP athletics director Bo Perasol respected his guard’s decision and said he has no doubts that Belmonte will shine wherever he lands.

“Mark will always have his place as a champion in Diliman. From Seasons 86 to 88, we are thankful to him for playing his part in our continued success,” Perasol said.

“We wish him the best and for sure, he will keep playing his part for his next team.”

Belmonte averaged 3.7 points and 2.4 rebounds for the Fighting Maroons last year.

As of writing, Belmonte is reportedly heading to an NCAA school, where he will need to undergo a residency year before being eligible to play.
