MANILA, Philippines — Armed with her Alas Pilipinas experience, Amie Provido looks to bring her international exposure in La Salle’s title redemption bid in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament.

Provido was a revelation as Alas starter in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, stepping up for the team with consistent numbers in the frontline despite falling short of ending a 20-year medal drought.

“It’s really a learning experience for me and a confidence-booster. I got to play in a very high-level tournament and to play with the veterans also,” said Provido. “I’m happy to play there, and I get to share it with my teammates also especially my fellow young players.”

The fourth-year middle blocker embraces a bigger role as one of the leaders with her batchmates captain Shevana Laput, Angel Canino, and Lyka De Leon.

“We learned to embrace our role and it’s not hard to lead our young teammates since they are easy to get along with,” said Provido.

“We all help each other. Shev is our captain now, and when she was just starting, she felt some pressure. But we always remind her that we’re here for her and that we won’t leave her alone. In the end, we’re all leaders on the court, and we all support one another.”

Provido is confident that they can achieve their ultimate goal after settling for silver last year where it lost to National University, which will now begin its life without Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon this season.

“This season, we really aim for the gold because coming from last season, we’re one step away from getting the championship,” she said.

“We’re confident. We know we’re capable of winning the championship this season. But at the same time, we also know it won’t be easy because all the teams are improving and working hard for the same goal. Still, we won’t stop, we’ll do everything we can.”

La Salle’s title redemption quest unfolds on Saturday, facing Far Eastern University at Mall of Asia Arena.
