MANILA, Philippines — Sam Cantada assured that she’s feeling OK after sitting out in National University’s bounce-back win over University of the East in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The rookie sensation, who injured her right shin at the end of their five-set loss to the University of the Philippines on Saturday, said she is no longer feeling pain and simply chose to rest.
“I’m okay. We’re just waiting for the results, but I’m fine. There’s nothing major, and I don’t need an MRI,” Cantada told the reporters in Filipino.
Cantada was in uniform and also warmed up on Wednesday, as NU bounced back with a 25-19, 25-10, 25-19 rout of UE.
“They told me to rest first since we still have a lot of games ahead, and the upcoming matches will be tougher. So it’s better to rest for now,” she added.

Arah Panique led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points from 10 kills and two blocks. Celine Marsh filled in the void left by Cantada with 11 points and 12 digs, while captain Vange Alinsug had 10 points, seven excellent digs, and seven excellent receptions.
“Of course, I’m really proud because everyone on the team is gaining confidence,” Cantada said.
NU coach Regine Diego is optimistic that the rookie outside hitter, who just turned 19, could make her comeback sooner.
NU battles Ateneo this Sunday at the same venue.
“Sam is doing fine. She’s just resting, but, hopefully we get to see her next game,” Diego said.
