MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala returns to the Miami Open looking to continue her rise after points from last year’s dream semifinal run have expired.
She opens her 2026 Miami Open campaign on Friday (Manila time).
Eala, who rose to a career-best World No. 29, is currently at No. 50 with 1,145 points in the WTA live rankings after losing the 380 points she gained from her semifinal finish in 2025.
The Filipino ace will be looking to regain those points this year, hoping to replicate her stunning run as a wildcard, where she upset three Grand Slam champions, including Iga Swiatek.

Siegemund took down Petra Marcinko of Croatia, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round to advance against Eala.
The German veteran, who has a career-high world ranking of 27 with two singles titles, reached the quarterfinal of Wimbledon last year, falling to World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka. She is also a seasoned doubles player with 16 titles, including three Grand Slam championships.

MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala and Iga Swiatek are tipped for a third-round clash in the Miami Open.
Eala knocked off Poland’s Swiatek in last year’s quarterfinals in Miami, where the Filipino tennis ace made her breakthrough in the WTA.
The rematch between Eala and Swiatek is one of the anticipated matches in the tournament. But for that to happen, the two must handle their business first.
Eala, seeded 31st in the tournament, will have to hurdle her opening match first against either Laure Siegemund or Petra Marcinko before focusing on a potential round-of-32 clash with the World No. 3 Swiatek.
