“There’s the EASL Future Champions program that we’re investing in Cebu,” Kerrins said. “We’ve been working with the Lapu-Lapu government, the Cebu City government and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas in a series of grassroots programs.”

Launched in September last year, the Future Champions program remains active and is also being implemented in Hong Kong and Macau.

“It’s a serious training program that can give kids access to international competition and international coaches,” Kerrins said.

“That’s just a small part of our Philippine strategy, coupled with our professional efforts.”

During its launch, then-SBP president Al Panlilio said the initiative aligned with the federation’s commitment to developing young Filipino players.

Aside from the grassroots push, the EASL is also set to roll out an “Elite Program,” which will provide top prospects with world-class coaching, international exposure, and long-term career development.
