UAAP men’s volleyball: FEU secures top seed, UE upsets Ateneo

MANILA, Philippines–Far Eastern University secured the top seed after squeaking past Adamson, 26-24, 22-25, 23-25, 25-9, 15-12, in the UAAP Season 88 men’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
The Tamaraws hiked their record to 12-1 with only a game left in the elimination round. Defending champion National University is second at 10-2.
Mikko Espartero topscored for FEU with 22 points, while Ariel Cacao also starred with 33 excellent sets. Dryx Saavedra added 17 on 13 attacks, three blocks and an ace.

Richard Besorio finished with 17 points and Zyro Omos chipped in 12 as the Falcons wrapped up their campaign with a 3-11 slate.
Meanwhile, also-ran University of the East upset Final Four-bound Ateneo, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22.
UE finished with a 4-10 record while stopping Ateneo’s two-game streak. The Blue Eagles, who have already locked up the fourth seed, dropped to 7-6.

“Since this is our last game, I just told them to give it their all because we have nothing to lose and we wanted to end the season memorably with a win,” UE assistant coach Jumbo Dimaculangan said.
Roy Piojo and Raquim Aceron led the Red Warriors with 23 points apiece. Piojo had 21 attacks and two aces.
Jian Salarzon paced the Eagles with 20 and Amil Pacinio Jr. tallied 14.
