Tour of Luzon: Dave Montemayor wins Stage 3 in bunch finish

PALAYAN CITY, Nueva Ecija—Dave Montemayor of Go for Gold Philippines won Stage 3 of the MPTC Tour of Luzon that ended in a bunch finish here
Montemayor crossed the line first as part of a nine-man lead pack after the 140.1-kilometer lap that concluded in front of City Hall before a crowd of biking enthusiasts.

He concluded the race that started at New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac, in three hours, 23 minutes and nine seconds.

Teammate Marc Ryan Lago placed second while Excellent Noodles’ Sumiso Basalan was third with identical clockings.
LCW UAE Cycle’s Nikita Shulchenko is fourth, followed by Seoul Cycling Team’s A Seom Cha, 7-Eleven Roadbike Philippines’ Antoine Huby, and Standard Insurance Philippines’ Dave Cangayao.

7-Eleven pedalists Mervin Corpuz and Ronnilan Quita, also in the lead pack, were three seconds back.
It was the biggest win in the career of Montemayor, who hails from Meycauyan, Bulacan and is known in the cycling scene as a specialist in mountain biking.
Turning 25 next month, Montemayor became part of a first breakaway group of about 12 riders that includes Lago and, Basalan, Shulchenko and Corpuz.
The lead pack was later reduced to nine after three cyclists faded, including the Team Pangasinan tandem of El Joshua Carno and Daniel Farinas.
It was the same group that would later traverse the category three climb that ended in Laur town before heading towards a race to the finish in this city.
