PVL: Undrafted Joan Monares signs with PLDT

MANILA, Philippines — Undrafted Joan Monares has joined champion team PLDT ahead of the new Premier Volleyball League season.
Monares, a University of the Philippines standout, was signed by the High Speed Hitters after being left unselected with 26 other players.

“Joan’s volleyball story arc continues,” wrote PLDT. “We all want more of Joan Monares so here we go! The outside hitter from UP becomes the final piece of PLDT’s recruitment before the start of the 2026-2027 PVL season!”
The UP captain tried out for PLDT after the draft night and got her spot in the pros.
Monares saw a limited role in the UAAP Season 88 due to a back injury.
PLDT also signed Winnie Bedaña from Galeries Tower.
The High Speed Hitters will defend their crown in the PVL on Tour starting next month.
PLDT only drafted in the first round, selecting setter Fianne Ariola from Perpetual Help.
