CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur — The Philippine women’s volleyball team may have had the version of Ara Galang, who’s past her prime, but the 31-year-old wing spiker, a first-time Alas Pilipinas campaigner, made a huge impact on her teammates–including the veterans.
In Inquirer’s interview with Alyssa Eroa, the veteran libero revealed that she’s always dreamed of playing with Galang, and her younger teammates Niña Ytang, Alyssa Solomon, and Kyla Atienza are also inspired and motivated to play alongside the former La Salle star.

Alyssa Valdez, who had classic UAAP Finals matches with Galang during the peak of Ateneo-La Salle rivalry, was honored to finally share the court with Galang and inspire each other as leaders of the retooled roster.
Galang was surprised to hear such praise and that she had such an impact on this squad.
“Honestly, I don’t really know,” said Galang in Filipino. “I just try to give my best every day. But it’s heartwarming to know that I still inspire them until now, and that’s something I’ll carry with me every day.”
The Farm Fresh veteran player believes she got the national team opportunity late in her career. That’s why she hopes that the younger players, once they receive a call-up, will grab it and take pride in representing the flag.

“I know that’s one of the biggest dreams of every athlete. I hope that when the opportunity comes for them, they’ll seize it and make the most of it. Hopefully, they’ll be able to bring honor and pride to the Philippines as well,” said Galang.
“This isn’t just any opportunity. I’m incredibly grateful, and at the same time, I’m proud to represent the Philippines. I hope people continue to support Alas Pilipinas,” she added.
Galang, a former PVL Best Opposite Spiker, also sees a bright future for the program, with Solomon, a former Japan SV.League player, being the centerpiece of the team.
“She’s a special talent. She has so much potential and still has a long journey ahead of her. She’ll be able to contribute a lot to Philippine volleyball, and I’m really looking forward to seeing her in future games with the national team,” Galang said.
