Tennis: Jugo forges title duel with Eala
Juan Enrique Jugo survived a gritty stand by Alexandra Eala to prevail, 7-5, 6-1,Thursday and barge into the final of the 10-under unisex of the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Tennis Association age-group championships at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The second-seeded Jugo advanced against top seed and Alexandra’s older brother Miko Eala, who won the other semifinal match by whitewashing Nio Tria, 6-0, 6-0.
Bettina Bautista edged Gia Sagandoy, 6-3, 6-2, to reach the girls’ 12-under finals, while top seed Roxanne Resma drubbed Khim Iglupas, 6-3, 6-0, to gain the girls’ 18-under finals.
Article continues after this advertisementIglupas bounced back in the girls’ 16-under by beating Erika Manduriao, 6-0, 6-2, while Marcus del Rosario routed Jugo, 6-0, 6-2, to clinch a semifinal spot in the boys’ 12-under.
Other semifinal matches in various groups were being played at presstime, including the doubles, with the winners each getting 200 points.
The runners-up and the two other semifinalists will gain 150 and 100 points, respectively, while the quarterfinalists will get 70 points. Marc Anthony Reyes
