Reigning UFL champion Global unveiled former Glasgow Rangers defender Bryan Reid as its new coach Thursday, underlining its serious bid to contend in the AFC Presidents Cup and keep its two other titles this year.

The 42-year-old Scottish coach, who had a checkered playing career that included stints in the European Champions League with Rangers, is coming off a five-year managerial spell with Ayr United in Scotland, a team which he steered to promotion in the top flight.

“Obviously my goal is to bring as much success. The great thing is that the Presidents Cup is here and it’s a big attraction for myself and great prestige for the club.”

Reid’s first game in charge will be against Manila Nomads on Sunday in the round of 16 of the PFF Smart Club Championship, where Global is defending champion.
