PSC welcomes private support for PH bets
MANILA—Even the Philippine Sports Commission is amenable to tapping private support for its programs.
Commissioner Jolly Gomez Thursday said the PSC will try to entice the private sector to help finance some of the projects of the government sports agency and improve the facilities for the national athletes.
The Philippine Olympic Committee had already announced plans to seek the help of private sponsors in case the expenses of the delegation in this year’s Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia exceed the allocated P30-million PSC budget.
Article continues after this advertisementGomez said private backers in other countries give their respective sports programs a lift while easing the financial burden from the government.
“It’s only here in the Philippines that private sponsors aren’t that aggressive,” said Gomez. “We should implement strong and transparent programs to bring back these private sponsors.”
