Earth Day Run eyes 10,000 entries

ONE run, 30,000 trees.

The Earth Day Run 2013 will pledge three trees for every runner as part of National Geographic Channel’s effort to join the cause of saving the environment.

With a target of 10,000 participants in the 21K, 10K, 5K and 3K races in the April 28 event at Bonifacio Global City, organizers said the 4th Earth Day Run will focus not on extravagant prizes but on making people more conscious about saving the environment.

“We’ve got an initial 30,000 seeds and we’ll  buy more if needed,” said Jude Turcuato, vice president and Philippine head for Fox International Channels, during the recent launch at Buddha Bar in Makati. “Our main objective is to encourage people to run for Mother Earth and help plant trees in the process.”

The tree planting at a still undetermined place will happen two to three months after the race.  All race finishers can join the activity.

Upon registration, runners will get their race bibs made from recyclable materials and plastic bottles which can be refilled at hydration stations along the race route.
