Resma, Iglupas forge Truflex tennis title duel
LAPU-LAPU CITY—Favorites Roxanne Resma and Khim Iglupas hurdled their respective semifinals assignments yesterday to forge a title showdown in the centerpiece girls’ 18-under of the Truflex national age-group tennis championships here.
Top seed Resma downed Maria Dominique Ong, 6-4, 6-3, while Iglupas overcame a hard-fighting Jana Pages, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, to set the championship tiff at Haruhay Dream Resort.
Already an age-group stalwart, Resma also made her move in the girls’ 16-under when she defeated Rafaella Villanueva, 6-0, 6-0. Resma will face either Jane Pages or Zethley Mae Alferez who are still playing at presstime.
Article continues after this advertisementIn boys’ 16-under at Mactan Airbase Tennis Club, Dave Sebastian Mosqueda kept his steady pace toward the quarterfinals after beating Fabien Callaud, 6-4, 6-3. Other quarterfinalists are Jermain Carl Chi Laurel and Emmanuel Vacalares.
At Amores Tennis Club, Alferez scored an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over Kristin Renee Salimbangon and joined Shyne Villareal in the girls’ 14-under semis.
Advancing to the boys’ 14-under quarterfinals at Mactan Airbase tennis courts were local boy Godfrey Seno, Fabien Calaug, Harvey Gilbuena and Jace Christian Unto.
