Filoil Flying V Cup cites Ravena, Newsome

INSTRUMENTAL in Ateneo’s strong start in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup, guard Kiefer Ravena and forward Chris Newsome spearhead the cast of players awarded for their exploits in the first week of the pre-season tournament.

Ravena was named Master Best Player of the Week by tallying 209 statistical points in the Eagles’ first three games, even as Newsome was given the Gatorade Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Newsome averaged 11.5 rebounds and two steals in the Eagles’ wins against Southwestern U, Emilio Aguinaldo College and San Sebastian.

Ateneo is currently 6-1, but wont be seeing action until June 1 when it faces rival La Salle.

Ravena and Newsome also led the Best Five in the first week of the tournament which also includes Von Pessumal and San Beda standouts Ola Adeogun and Art De La Cruz, who led the Lions to a 2-1 record in the first week of play.  Cedelf P. Tupas
