MANILA, Philippines — The UAAP has cancelled basketball games scheduled Wednesday due to Typhoon “Glenda.”

Wiped off the schedule were the men’s doubleheader at Mall of Asia Arena and the women’s games at Blue Eagle gym.

University of Santo Tomas was scheduled to take on University of the East, with the Tigers hoping to bounce back from a 19-point whipping in the opener against National U.

UE, on the other hand, was eyeing a second straight win and the early lead, the same thing Far Eastern U was hoping to shoot for against Adamson.

FEU nailed the first upset of the tournament, dampening defending champion La Salle’s debut in the season.

The new schedule and venue of the cancelled games will be announced at a later date.

With the typhoon expected to exit the country before the week ends, action will resume on Saturday with National U battling University of the Philippines at 2 p.m. and UE clashing with Adamson at 4 p.m. at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Tigers, last year’s finalists who got badly beaten by the Bulldogs, 59-40, hope to rise against the Tamaraws at 4 p.m. on Sunday, right after the 11 a.m. duel between fierce rivals Ateneo and La Salle.

Tickets will be sold separately for this Sunday’s blockbuster games also at the Big Dome.

“We have veteran players and they already know their mistakes,” said new UST coach Bong dela Cruz, who’s expecting Kevin Ferrer, Aljon Mariano and Karim Abdul to regain their old dominant form.

The Archers, meanwhile, hope to get their title defense back on track against a fierce rival. La Salle lost to an FEU team that got the goods from new leaders Mike Tolomia and Mac Belo.

“He had better shot selection and he hit the more important shots,” coach Nash Racela said of Tolomia, who used to be overshadowed by former aces RR Garcia and Terrence Romeo.
